Food Donations
A great deal of the food that we distribute is
donated food. We rely heavily on the generosity
of the community to supply nutritious groceries
for its families in crisis. Several large food
drives are conducted each year: the Letter Carriers’
food drive in May, the Scott Health & Safety
food drive in November, the Thanksgiving drive
by Wingate UCAN, the and local school, scout and
church group’s drives throughout the year. Along
with the steady contributions of private individuals
and so many supportive area churches, the drives
provide the bulk of our donated food, but ouir
food needs continue to grow as the number of families
in crisis in this area grows.
Donate to Our Pantry
You can donate food or checks directly to our
volunteers at our pantry at St. Paul’s Episcopal
Church at the corner of Windsor and Church Streets
in Monroe. Our volunteers are there from 10 until
noon every day except Fridays and Sundays. If
you have a large donation, we can usually find
a volunteer to meet you during off hours at the
pantry of at our other storage site if arrangements
are made in advance by calling 980-328-7111.
Conduct a Food Drive
Organize a food drive at your work site or with
your congregation. . Or do a door to door collection
in your neighborhood or subdivision. This is a
great way to give back to the community and to
raise awareness of community needs. Click
here for suggestions on how to conduct o food
drive.
Matching Gifts
Double your financial or volunteer time donation
by participating in your company’s matching gift
program. Some companies, like Bank of America,
Wachovia , Verizon & Bell South make a contribution
equal to those of their employee’s gifts and some
make a contribution equal to their employee’s
volunteer hours served. Check with your Human
Resources Department for information
Loaves and Fishes of Union County takes stewardship
of its contributions seriously, continuously spending
less than 5% on equipment, supplies and business
expense. The rest is used for food . There are
no paid personnel.
