About Loaves And Fishes of Union County

Is a non-profit 5001 (c)(3) charitable corporation, governed by a twelve member board of directors representing area churches, that applies contributions directly to its operation.

Was incorporated in 1984 as a completely volunteer, stand-alone, charitable, non-profit entity, not funded by any agency of the Feseral, State or Local government.

Is a volunteer food bank organization whose mission is to provide groceries and support to local people in crisis up to three times a year.

A set quantity (double that of food stamps) of nutritionally balanced food for one week is given to meet emergency situations upon written certfication of need/referrals from approved human service or religious who do the screening of the applicants.

Initial funding was provided in response to a growing hunger problem in 1983 by a seed grant from the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina to St. Paul's Episcopal Church. St. Paul's continues to provide the pantry & storage space for operations.

As of 2009 the volunteers from our many area churches have created and maintained a successful ecumenical ministry to Union County people in need for 25 years.

Some keep records, pay bills, care for correspondence, speak to organizations and raise funds. Some purchase, transport, log, and stock the pantry. Others divide and package the food in a predetermined assortment and quantity by family size for an ample week's worth of nutrituionally balanced meals.

The pantry, located at St. Paul's Episcopal Church at 116 S. Church Street in Monroe, is open to dispense food and accept donations from 10AM until noon every day of the week except Friday and Sunday.

Not affiliated with Charlotte Loaves & Fishes and Union County people in need do not benefit from donations routed to Mecklenburg.
